Dr. Menasche and the Hamiltonian Group have been providing expert consulting services to the Air Force Research Laboratory since 2016. In an effort to support the development of microstructural sensitive modeling tools, the Hamiltonian Group aids in the collection and analysis of non-destructive x-ray measurements that see inside the structure of functional materials, including nickel-base superalloys widely utilized by the aerospace industry. These measurements aim to improve predictions of probabilistic fatigue performance of these materials; by better characterizing and more tightly constraining material operational lifetime, this research controls component costs and promotes safety.
